Final Major Project

Final Major Project is fully underway with long days in the print rooms and constantly dyed fingertips!

I have been experimenting and creating new and exciting prints for my final project. Experimenting with dyeing silk fabric with procion and acid dyes, also printing with acid and pigment inks...well and truly getting my hands dirty!

This is an exciting time of university when you finally get to put what you have been learning into practice and fully have the open project brig to negotiate your own collection!
I have really enjoyed exploring techniques and pushing my potential as a print designer.

I have focused my final collection on print for the fashion market. I want my collection to be contemporary, fresh and bold!

More developing, dyeing and designing to be done!

Paris Visit !

Bonjour!

Paris! i recently returned from a trip to Paris, my main reason for the trip was to attend the international textile trade show Premier Vision www.premierevision.com/

The trade show was excellent and it was brilliant to see all the different design studios under one roof and to be inspired by the latest trends, styles and seeing the development in latest technology. It was also a great to see design studios and network with them about potential internships or opportunities after university.

As well as the trade show I took the most of travelling round and seeing what Paris had to offer! Seeing the artists in the street and in squares with there canvas, paints and creating was inspirational.

Hopefully back again soon !

Mirjam Rouden Design Studio Intern

Amazing Intern at London Textile Design Studio

Mirjam Rouden

I completed a three week intern at Mirjam Rouden Textile Design Studio in London whilst studying in my final year ! It was a very busy time, dissertation has just been handed in along with Minor Project and my first week at the internship was my first week at Final Major Project too!

I wouldn't of changed a thing, being busy and managing a few things at once is part of the fun and helps you prepare for life after university.

During my intern I was given drawing to fashion trend briefs, CAD reworking and placing into repeat on sold designs. It was a very fast paced and exciting experience. I would love to return here after my degree to continue learning new skills!

Brilliant Internship at Owens and Kim London

In February 2014 I completed an internship at Owens and Kim Ltd in London.

I am so thankful for Owens and Kim giving me the opportunity to intern with them, I learnt a lot and met very talented fashion print designers. I am returning to Owens and Kim during the Summer for a longer internship throughout August and I can't wait!

Development Interiors Project

I am really enjoying this project and feel I have my own style really developing through all of my work. I am currently working on my finals of A1 and Length designs for wallpaper.

I wanted to created artistic wallpaper for more commercial spaces such as cafes, bars and shops.

LOVE how colourful and bright my work bay has become over this interiors project, I feel so inspired by all the different textures and patterns.

These are a few development pieces of colour ways for wallpaper samples.

I am going on to develop my collection with texture, looking into flocking and minor foam. This will create depth and interest to the wallpaper designs.

Here are layers of backgrounds, textures and Koda traces: I am going to experiment with these using minor foam, spandex binder, stitch and screen-printing. I love the bright and bold colours I have been working with and really want this to develop into the final collection.

Love the Big Bold Colour Impact and want to follow this through to my designs. I have also included collage, torn paper, my own photographs and rusty tools from a local antique store.
